Our Philosophy

Having tried every diet available (nearly!) and having lost a huge number of pounds and stone over the years, only to put them back on again (and more), we were intrigued about why this kept happening.  Through various discussions, and using our knowledge and experience in the fields of neuroscience and fitness, we realised that our minds were the key.

Therefore, we have spent a couple of years practising on ourselves, trying out various methods, and researching extensively about the mind and body connection.

Having worked out what we believe is a winning formula, we wanted to share it.  Both Karen and Debbie are coaches in their fields and get a real buzz from sharing knowledge and seeing success in others.  And therefore, SmallerKnickers, was launched.

You may have noticed our strapline is “Your Choice: Mind and Body Mastering the Food Fantasy”.  This is why we chose it …

Your choice:

  • It is highly motivating if you have autonomy over your decisions, and of course demotivating if you’re constantly told what to do. Therefore, we wanted to highlight that you are in total control over what you chose to do or not do with the knowledge we provide.
  • Neuroplasticity is the word used for our mind’s ability to change. We make new neural connections throughout life – to learn things, and to unlearn things.  So, you may have learnt to believe something, or form a habit, but if you want to, you can change them.

Mind and Body:

  • The mind is rarely talked about when discussing healthy eating. And yet, we all know that the mind and body are connected.
  • The mind controls all the processes we do consciously and unconsciously. So, we wanted to bring an awareness of the links, especially in relation to food choices, digestion and fitness.

Mastering the Food Fantasy:

  • Food is thought about often: when our next meal is going to be, what restaurant we want to go to, how to celebrate, when to have a favourite, when socialising etc etc.
  • Additionally, food can often become an obsession, especially if we’re trying to ban certain foods.
  • But with the mind back in control through awareness of the beliefs, habits and triggers which can affect it, it’s easier to master healthy eating and fitness.
  • Knowing what macro and micro nutrients are in our favourite foods, also brings another form of awareness and therefore the ability to make informed decisions. Therefore, we have provided a number of short videos for you to watch at any time.

We hope you find all the information useful.  Have fun!
